I for one am happy to have had a working amd64 system for the last
decade, even if it might have been somewhat better if I had been stuck
on 32-bit while the perfect system was devised.

Gentoo doesn't need thrown-together hacks, but half-decent solutions
that work shouldn't be held up in favor of ideal solutions that don't
exist.  There is always room for evolution.

That said, as far as EAPIs go I'm in favor of shipping whatever is
ready to ship.
