Easy, just copy the ebuild and any patches in the files subdir to a local overlay. http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/overlays/userguide.xml That is one of the reasons things are masked for at least 30 days before removal. To give affected people some time to deal with it however they want. We can't be expected to keep old stuff around forever :/
