I imagine _someone_ out there wants it, otherwise we wouldn't be
discussing it.

But those of us who use /etc/conf.d/hostname shouldn't need to change
anything for a package or two that insists on /etc/hostname.

I've not yet learned/used containers so I don't personally have a use
for /etc/hostname.
