If Lucas concludes that, I guess he could maintain a restored 0.8.x, while there's 0.9.x systemd version maintained by me and hopefully others (help still welcome, I'm still waiting on bug 613222, but might be able to convert another machine earlier to plymouth). Personally I've always connected plymouth with systemd and I'm surprised some open OpenRC bugs were triggering treecleaning, but yes, having a maintainer is always good as there are some service bug open too, but so it is for the countless other maintainer-needed packages we have around.
