You need to unmask the package by: echo "sys-apps/baselayout -* ~*" >>
/etc/portage/package.keywords

Subject: [gentoo-embedded] xmerge gentoo-sources failure

I have been following the steps posted on
http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/base/embedded/cross-development.xml to set up
a cross compiler. The host is an i686-pc-linux-gnu and the taget is a
powerpc-unknown-linux-gnu system. Everything seems to work until I try to
emerge the kernel sources. In fact, I was able to xmerge a library (gdbm).
I don't know what other information to provide, but I was unable to find
someone else with this problem is several google searches. Any ideas?
