No.
Instead DHCP clients should provide a zeroconf solution.
dhcpcd-3.1 [1] and higher do and works fine in an embedded environment. It's a
little more bloaty than udhcpc, but it's also a lot more feature rich.

Maybe not avahi in it's current form, but certainly there is the
possibility that zeroconf + dns-sd + (new code) could be made to
auto-configure the ethernet and routing for an embedded board.
If you disagree, please provide me some factual reasons as to why
zeroconf plus dns-sd cannot be extended to perform auto-configuration?
