I've loaded 2.6.36-hardened-r7 on all but one of my servers, and they boot normally (and don't require root=...).
The last straggler is due to an apache problem (goes away when I reboot to 2.6.32-hardened-r22) that I don't think I'm willing to reproduce during business hours.
