1/ Thank you for telling about your intentions.

2/ The following is for information. I do not mean that it should block the 
stabilization of the gentoo-sources-3.8.7 and I won't open a bug blocking it.

Up to you to decide if it should actually block it or not :

- ck-sources-3.8.3 users reported to me a regression occurring when booting in 
UEFI mode.

- After analysis, I believe that it is related to a problem reported here :

- I have parsed (but possibly not carefully enough) Greg's logs for the 3.8 
branch and the above mentioned patches does not seem having been backported.
