So at the very least you need to wrap it in something that checks eapi or the portage-3 format, Something that is not yet clear to me which. And instead of tracebacking like it did, have it error out instead. In the short term it likely won't hurt (we may need to dis-able it for a new release) and will allow them to do more testing, to establish the official parameters of the new feature.
