Yes, Paraview is based on VTK, which also requires cmake, and there is indeed an ebuild for VTK. You may also want to look at the ebuild for "octaviz", a project to run VTK from within octave:

I have used paraview a little myself. I haven't taken the time to make an ebuild which compiles it from source, but I do have one that simply expands the pre-compiled tarball. I can send it to you offlist if you like.
