Hi there, I may missing something, but what's happening with octave

is 2006ish, while 2.9.15 has been released...

Hi Davide,
Thanks much for your inquiry since it provides me with
an opportunity to send out an email regarding the status
of octave/octave-forge to all of you.
The new octave is currently available at the science overlay [1].
Somewhat unfortunately, octave and octave-forge are tied together
pretty closely so we have always tried to keep both in sync,
particularly since octave-forge is used by many octave users.
With octave 2.9.x the previously monolithic octave-forge package
has switched to a new "split-package" distribution system which
required a complete rework of our octave-forge ebuilds; most of
the work is now handled by a newly designed octave-forge eclass.
Please check out [2] and [3] for more details.
I am planning to move all packages belonging to the new
octave/octave-forge infrastructure which are currently
located at [4] to the science overlay over the weekend.
Particularly the octave-forge eclass needs a little more
testing to iron out bugs. If nothing major crops up we can probably
move everything to the main portage tree in the near future.
cheers,
Markus
