No, I/O stays within reasonable limits. The CPU load is at 60 - 70%, any
higher load (even if just a few more sessions) immediately increases it to
100% and sessions are dropped with time-out; increasing the timeout values
any higher however isn't allowed by our business (response time limit).

SSLSessionCacheTimeout 300

Using dbm was indeed a no-go.

I'll try increasing the space and disable logging.

Is there a best-effort setting for the number of threads versus processes?
We're currently setting 25 threads per process (fixed).
