Hello:

So far, thanks to David Abbott and you Ricardo. I am starting to read the docs now. I ran the emerge -vp and here is the output:

##############################
# emerge -vp apache php mysql

These are the packages that I would merge, in order:

Calculating dependencies -

!!! The short ebuild name "php" is ambiguous. Please specify
!!! one of the following fully-qualified ebuild names instead:

   dev-lang/php
   dev-php/php
##############################

Which one of those should I install, *lang/* or *php/*? Does it matter?

Thanks again for the prompt reply,
RV

Hi Ronald,

It's pretty simple, just emerge -vp apache php mysql and see which use flags you need to enable or disable, according to your taste. After that just emerge apache php mysql, configure each one according to your taste and start them. Should be pretty simple, but in any case here are some docs to help you:
http://gentoo-wiki.com/Apache2_Install
http://gentoo-wiki.com/Apache_Modules_mod_php
http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_MySQL

Hope it helps,

Hello:

I am having a bit of trouble installing Apache-2.0.XX with PHP-4.X on our Gentoo server using the emerge system. I have done multiple times (from source) on Red hat, SuSE, Slackware, and others but have never used the emerge functionality. I guess part of the problem is that I am not yet familiar with the options to be used with the emerge system.

Could some one please guide me to a good source of documentation or HowTo detailing the Apache/PHP/MySQL setup on Gentoo Linux? Perhaps a Gentoo/Apache/PHP/MySQL for dummies. ;-) I am very excited about using Gentoo and perhaps making it my main OS after using Slackware for 15 years.

Thanks in advance,
