Thanks Marcus.
Ok, cutting and pasting /etc/passwd sounds easier for
user/machine accounts.
I use tdbsam so I assume I move
/var/lib/samba/private/*.tdb too.
What about .tdb files in
/var/cache/samba
There is bunuch of stuff like
account_policy.tdb
brlock.tdb
connections.tdb
etc.
Must it be moved or will it get recreated?

Hi Karl!
Just copy the relevant lines from /etc/passwd /etc/group
/etc/shadow and merge into the files on the new server.
You should be able to move relevant lines from
/var/lib/samba/private/smbpasswd to.

I have to move my SAMBA PDC to new hardware. SAMBA uses
/etc/passwd
along with its own user database.
Can I copy /etc/passwd from the old server to the new or
do I have to
create a new /etc/passwd matching the user info? I
believe I need to
move /etc/group and /etc/shadow too. Is there such a
thing and a
shadow group?
What about root on the new server? Will it have
problems if a new
/etc/passwd is dropped in on it?
