It will make it more constructive if you told us why does it make it

I agree that more examples would help, but nobody is volunteering to
write them... Have you looked through all ebuilds under www-apps
already? Most (all?) of them inherit webapp.eclass

I don't think it is new. And on real servers (i.e. not home servers, or
desktop+server) the /var is usually on a separate NAS (or SAN, or at
least RAID array), has special backup schedules and so on. The recent
move is to /srv (see new mysql ebuilds) and as part of LFS, I plan to
add support to more ebuilds for it. Then Gentoo is about choice, so you
can always opt not to be in the same wagon. That is why we have ~arch,
USEflags, overlays (in a broad sense).
