PHP 4 *end of life* is announced for August, 8 2008 (this mean in a few months). Having it masked is a good point. Soon, it will become a security issue more than it is by now. Upgrading is the right way, even if it's not an easy and pleasant task if scripts are not PHP 5 compatible...
