So have you, or your customer tried running ezpublish cms under PHP5? What breaks? What do you mean, it's "not stable"? All the literature online re ezpublish cms states categorically that v 3.7 won't run on PHP5, but there are only a handful of incompatibilities between PHP4 and PHP5, mostly syntax stuff.
