For me it's that gentoo doesn't break things as easily as other distros (no
flame war intended please)
Portage let's you try before committing and once committed you then have
dispatch-conf so as not to break all your config files unless you choose to
do so.
Plus I can install the minimum packages needed to provide whatever services
I need which then means that there is a minimum of upgrades needed as there
is less to upgrade.
