You can try adding it to the grub kernel line ( or 
append="agp_try_unsupported=1" if you use lilo ).

However, this didn't help me when I was using the vanilla-sources-2.4.20.  
You should try a different kernel.  I'm using 2.4.20-xfs_pre5 and I don't 
get that message any more ( I'm not using XFS but it's a good stable 
kernel and supports newer hardware, like my KT400 ).
