You have to run a program that will connect to the server and stream.  Icecast is a server that clients can connect to but a program like darkice, for example, uploads the stream (in this case audio) and icecast forwards it to the client that requests it.  They also make xmms plugins that will do the same.  I hope that makes sense.  Anyway, check out darkice or http://www.icecast.org/ for more info.

I'd be grateful for a little information on how to use icecast2.  I've 
configured /etc/icecast2.xml and can use xmms to connect to the server but 
get the following error

	connection added....
	DEBUG: client coming in...
	DEBUG: source not found for client

and xmms gives a 404 not found error.  What exactly should the <basedir> tag 
point to and does it require a playlist file?
