I have a MSI GF4 Ti with a DVI port and a LCD from Samsung and it works perfect. 
First, try booting the PC with only the DVI connected, I had that problem with the 
display, and video card, only finding the old VGA port. Then add this to you XF86config

Option      "FlatPanelProperties"       "Scaling = native"

This works for me at least.
