Not related to Mark's problem, but here are mine:

Emerge Xfree4.2.99.4 as upgrade for 4.2.1(-r2?).
After emerge:
Mouse died. (As if the usb drivers where unloaded, reloading didn't fix
it.).
Keyboard behaved strangely.
Ran etc-updated, change my XF86Config-4 to reflect the added support for
my keyboard.
Rebooted.
Mouse fixded. Keyboard works.

I have two displays a Geforce4 with Nvidia driver and a trident card.
The primary display (Nvidia) works fine. But the secondary is strange:

The monitor is "awaken" by loading xfree as usual. But it is all black.
Before it would atleast have some flashing garbage when changing to
textmode.

I ran xinerama (and it seems I still do as I can move the mousepointer
to where the other display should be.

I found this in XFree86.0.log:
newkid root # cat /var/log/XFree86.0.log | grep EE
(WW) warning, (EE) error, (NI) not implemented, (??) unknown.
(II) Loading extension MIT-SCREEN-SAVER
(EE) TRIDENT(1): Cannot read V_BIOS
(EE) TRIDENT(1): Cannot read V_BIOS

some snipets from /etc/X11/XF86Config-4:
