During installation my cable connection worked fine. My ISP uses dynamic address assignment. But after building a kernel and rebooting I cannot get a connection. I uncommented the correct line in /etc/conf.d/net.
The only error message I get on booting is "Failed to calculate dependencies. No socket driver loaded. can't find file---" Tthis is one of those messages with the red !! after it. I have all the pertinent drivers included in the kernel and not in modules. When I have a kernel problem under Slackware I get the message on bootup of SIOC___ not found." but with my new Gentoo kernel I get no error message. When I key in the command dhcpcd I get no error message, but no connection either. John Culleton [EMAIL PROTECTED] -- John Culleton Ignore this signature block. -- [EMAIL PROTECTED] mailing list
