Yeah -- that was to make mod_php install in the correct place (which,
incidentally, fouls up my Apache 1 installation :P)

Hm. I've seen this variable mentioned on this list, but I haven't seen
it in the Portage manual. A quick web search gave some info, though.
Thanks. (Why isn't this in the Portage manual?)

I haven't done this, and I guess it's the root of the problem. Which
document should I read to find out more about installing
unstable/masked packages? (Maybe I just haven't read the Portage
manual thoroughly enough?)
