Hello,

Last week I set up a machine I intend to become our home server machine.
It contains an AsRock motherboard with via kt266 chipset and a built-in
network controler that identifies as a via-rhine II.

Downloading to this computer via ftp or smb works ok, with smb performing
at 2.5 megabytes/second. However when I try to send something to another
computer, I get transfer rates of about 34 kbytes/sec, both with fpt and
samba-mounted drives.

After an evening of useless attempts, I have installed a second
networkcard that uses the fealnx driver, and this one gives me acceptable
transfer speeds. Download is marginally faster, and uploads are just as
fast as downloads.

So: is the built-in controler or its driver simply not good enough, or can
I do something to increase the performance. I have tried with- and withou
mii with no noticable difference.

Thanks,

Henk,
