Since you mention it, there is a cute way to get KDE's desktop on WindowMaker:On Thu, Feb 06, 2003 at 07:02:01PM -0800, Eric Miller wrote:Define "compatible" :) You can run gnome and kde software under any window manager/desktop (ie: fvwm, icewm, e, etc), as long as you have the libraries installed. You won't get the extras like the panels, desktop icons, etc though (that I know of anyway).
1. Run kdesktop
2. Right click on the title bar and select "Attributes."
3. Select Disable Border, Keep at Bottom, Disable titlebar, Full screen maximization, and Start maximized. Click save and close the attributes window.
4. Kill kdesktop, and relaunch it.
Now your desktop should be painted with KDE's wonderfully integrated desktop, and you didn't have to sell your soul!
If you want it to be present on all your workspaces, select Omnipresent in the attributes window as well.
It is worth noting that this will remove your ability to click on the background to get your WindowMaker Application menu.
There are also a few other minor artifacts that you might find irritating (launch icons).
Nautilus also works in a similar fashion (in fact it works a little better in this environment). Launch nautilus, select the title bar of the desktop window (if it doesn't show, configure nautilus to draw the desktop).
