My home box has a Soyo Dragon+ board which works great-- Soyo has had a reputation in the past of quality problems, but they have apparently been working really hard to change that. I even have the Promise onboard RAID working. Never crashes, fast, working surround sound, etc. I've also built about 20 of these at work to run Windoze 2K, and a couple more Gentoo boxen with same for clients. No one's complained. There are a lot of other issues involved in motherboard design than chipset. I tend to hang out a lot at tomshardware.com and check out the reviews. I also tend to buy boards designed for overclocking and *not* overclock. Boards designed to overclock tend to be way stable when you use them normally.
