One other person and I have had problems with metalog they since
installed syslog-ng as have I and the problems resolved.  What I saw was
my MTA lockup then it affected logins and reboots.  So you might want to
take metalog out.  I'm not sure if someone has put in an official bug
report on it but it definitly is starting to look like metalog has some
weird issues happening.
