I have a question regarding downgrading KDE and reemerge KDE3.0.5a? More
specifically how do I define that I only want to pull during an emerge
KDE3.0.5a?

Now for the longer story......

After the ebuild for KDE3.1 was released I decided to try it out.

It looks good but some of the old functionality from KDE3.0.5a that I have
come to rely on that has not made it into KDE3.1 and I'm having trouble with
stability. (no crashes - just odd behaviour like not honoring large mouse
cursor, smart window placement not honoring xinerama screen boarders, panels
not able to stretch across more than one screen etc..)

I also have a problem now where some applications like Quanta don't like
running under KDE3.0.5a now - while others don't run under KDE3.1 whereas,
before the upgrade everything was fine.

I also have the situation where it appears that KDE3.0.5a is running parts of
KDE3.1 and KDE3.1 is running parts of KDE3.0.5a. An example is that KDE3.1
starts with the KDE3.0.5a flash screen.

To make the situation worse I accidently deleted the .kde3 directory in my
user account and since then even after cleaning everything (removing all
.kde* dirs in my user home account) both KDE's don't generate a complete new
user config. KDE3.1 is missing all the menu items and complains about
missing io-slaves and MIME-types and KDE3.0.5a just doesn't display fonts
correctly anymore.

So what I want to do is remove KDE3.1 then reemerge KDE3.0.5a - hopefully to
get back to a stable KDE version that works correctly.

I have done:
"emerge -C /var/db/kde-base/*3.1*"
which has removed KDE3.1 and now I need to reemerge KDE3.0.5a; however, I have
not been able to accomplish this.

If I do either "emerge -up kde" or "emerge kde" emerge wants to pull in the
newer KDE3.1

So how do I specify only KDE3.0.5a?

"emerge -u kde-3.0.5a" doesn't seem to work.

Thanks for your time.

Adrian
