can you send me a "grep wheel /etc/group" output ?

Make sure your user has a valid shell in /etc/passwd /bin/sh is not valid, I'm not 
sure if this effects "su" but I knwo that if my user is /bin/sh I cannot ssh into the 
machine
I suspect this is related.
