i can't speak for win4lin or vmware, but as for the other two questions, i 
need windows for photoshop.  gimp is cool for tinkering, but if you want a 
serious image program you still need photoshop, and our copyright-loving 
friends @adobe refuse to build a linux version.  as for a choice between 
win2k and 98 for such a purpose, i see no reason to go to win2k.  since it 
uses ntfs, and linux has issues writing to such a filesystem, and 98 is 
lighter and supports just as much, 98 is the best choice by far.
