Yes, I've started the server on the other machines. I should have mentioned that one. As I understand it, port 3632 used to be the default. The version I have defaults to 4200 as confirmed with netstat. I take it that the syntax of the changes I made to /etc/make.conf looked ok, then.... Grrrr.
