I don't think it has anything to do with optimisations.  Mine are modest:
CFLAGS="-O2 -march=athlon-xp -pipe -mmmx -msse -m3dnow "

I think it's more a question of practise.  I find that if I precisely 
hover over the middle of a button until it changes appearance and then 
click, that works.
