It's the extended characters.  I can't see things such as the currency
symbol for the pound, cent symbol, etc.

Thanks and I'm using the latest 1.8.10x version.  I've not tried the new
version 2 but have wondered how diffrent it is from the one I'm using. 
I had a little suprise the other day tho on trying the other chat client
I have installed.  Every time I started bitchx on my router/firewall the
cdrom came on.  Later someone mentioned to me that default it has cdrom
support or something.  So far tho not really found another chat client I
like as much as Xchat.  But I'm used to having the support for extended
characters.  Having friends in europe now I just see partial sentances
if they did use an extended character.
