Fine :)

I do not know what Sigurd means with menu.lst as I do not know this
file.
In my /boot/grub there is a file named grub.conf (must be created by
hand). My grub.conf looks like this:

------

default 0
timeout 10
splashimage=(hd0,0)/boot/grub/splash.xpm.gz

title=Heinos Gentoo Linux
root (hd0,0)
kernel /boot/bzImage root=/dev/hda3

title=Windows XP Bootmanager
root (hd1,0)
chainloader +1

map (hd0) (hd1)
map (hd1) (hd0)

--------

As you can see there is the link to the splash image
(splashimage=(hd0,0)/boot/grub/splash.xpm.gz) and also the link
to the kernel which you typed manually (kernel /boot/bzImage
root=/dev/hda3).

If creating the grub.conf does not help try lilo. A friend had the
same problem (on a Sony VAIO) and only lilo got him out of trouble.

"emerge kde" will do it.

I think so but as far as I know it is still masked as unstable. There
is a file called package.mask but I always forget the correct path
where it lies, sorry.

Me too :)

TS> Many thanks
