I am in the process of setting up my first Gentoo system. And I have to admite that after 5 years of running a linux machine and install the next update, I feel like a total newibie and am struggling to correct the few start up bugs I have. Any way when it became too much for me to fuss with the onboard sound chip, I installed a spare sound balster live card I had, and your question caused me to remember that when I installed the card, I did not move the audio cable from the motherboard connection. Thanks very much.
