Can I send the TV image over the network to the other machine?

I looked at vls, vlms, etc but that doesn't seem to be the right way to
go. They require a digital TV signal, which I don't think I have

Any ideas?

Do the math. Without realtime compression you'll need gigabit ethernet.

Or basic real time compression ( as you said). ffmpeg has a server component that works rather well, and provides several different coding schemes so you can choose one your desktop can handle in real time. I've had no problems running this over 100BT to my iBook (although I need to select resolutions that my wimpy 300Mhz G3 can handle).
