However, when I boot from the cd, the kernel doesn't : "Decompressing kernel.. Ok, now booting the system". Then the system hangs. I hade the same problem on Acer TravelMate 223X. After instaling (using Knoppix live distro) I found out that it is probably problem with framebuffer/vesa mode. After installing kernel compiled using gentoo-sources it hangs if I use kernel parameter vga=791. The strange about this problem is that the Knoppix booted with enambled framabuffer without problem.
