I have emerge gnome completely without having the esound in my USE flag and installed it by itself as a dependency.
I read on the gnome page that esd is the sound daemon for gnome. but I may be crazy or I don`t understand english at all :o) LOL. anyone here use gnome without ESD? Here the output of an emerge -p of gnome-base/gnome on a system without any X stuff and without the ESD in the USE flag. Now I think i am not crazy :o) [ebuild U ] media-libs/freetype-2.1.2-r2 [1.3.1-r3] [ebuild N ] media-libs/fontconfig-2.1 [ebuild N ] x11-misc/ttmkfdir-3.0.4 [ebuild N ] app-arch/cabextract-0.6 [ebuild N ] x11-base/opengl-update-1.5 [ebuild N ] x11-base/xfree-4.2.1-r2 [ebuild N ] x11-libs/xft-2.0.1 [ebuild N ] dev-util/pkgconfig-0.14.0 [ebuild U ] dev-libs/glib-2.2.1 [1.2.10-r5] [ebuild N ] x11-libs/pango-1.2.1 [ebuild N ] dev-libs/atk-1.2.2 [ebuild N ] x11-libs/gtk+-2.2.1 [ebuild N ] dev-libs/libIDL-0.8.0 [ebuild N ] net-libs/linc-1.0.1 [ebuild N ] gnome-base/ORBit2-2.6.0 [ebuild N ] gnome-base/gconf-2.2.0 [ebuild N ] media-libs/libart_lgpl-2.3.10 [ebuild N ] gnome-extra/libgsf-1.6.0 [ebuild N ] gnome-base/librsvg-2.2.3 [ebuild N ] gnome-base/bonobo-activation-2.2.1 [ebuild N ] dev-util/intltool-0.25 [ebuild N ] gnome-base/libbonobo-2.2.0 [ebuild N ] dev-python/PyXML-0.8.1 [ebuild N ] app-text/docbook-xsl-stylesheets-1.57.0 [ebuild N ] app-text/docbook-xml-dtd-4.1.2-r3 [ebuild N ] gnome-base/libglade-2.0.1 [ebuild N ] gnome-base/libgnomecanvas-2.2.0.2 [ebuild U ] dev-libs/libxml2-2.5.2 [2.4.24] [ebuild N ] dev-libs/libxslt-1.0.25 [ebuild N ] media-libs/audiofile-0.2.3-r1 [ebuild N ] media-sound/esound-0.2.29 <---- HERE [ebuild N ] net-nds/portmap-5b-r6 [ebuild N ] app-admin/fam-oss-2.6.9-r1 [ebuild N ] gnome-base/gnome-mime-data-2.2.0 [ebuild N ] gnome-base/gnome-vfs-2.2.2 [ebuild N ] gnome-base/libgnome-2.2.0.1 [ebuild N ] gnome-base/libbonoboui-2.2.0 [ebuild N ] gnome-base/libgnomeui-2.2.0.1 [ebuild N ] media-gfx/eog-2.2.0 [ebuild N ] x11-themes/gnome-icon-theme-1.0.0 [ebuild N ] x11-themes/gtk-engines-metal-2.2.0 [ebuild N ] x11-themes/gtk-engines-thinice-2.0.2 [ebuild N ] x11-themes/gtk-engines-redmond95-2.2.0 [ebuild N ] x11-themes/gtk-engines-pixbuf-2.2.0 [ebuild N ] x11-themes/gnome-themes-2.2 [ebuild N ] app-text/sgml-common-0.6.3-r3 [ebuild N ] app-text/openjade-1.3.1-r6 [ebuild N ] app-text/docbook-sgml-dtd-3.0-r1 [ebuild N ] app-text/docbook-xml-simple-dtd-4.1.2.4 [ebuild N ] app-text/docbook-sgml-dtd-3.1-r1 [ebuild N ] app-text/docbook-sgml-dtd-4.1-r1 [ebuild N ] dev-perl/SGMLSpm-1.03-r4 [ebuild N ] app-text/docbook-dsssl-stylesheets-1.77-r1 [ebuild N ] app-text/docbook-sgml-dtd-4.0-r1 [ebuild N ] app-text/docbook-sgml-utils-0.6.11-r2 [ebuild N ] app-text/scrollkeeper-0.3.11-r1 [ebuild N ] app-arch/file-roller-2.2.1 [ebuild N ] gnome-base/libgtop-2.0.0-r1 [ebuild N ] x11-libs/libwnck-2.2.1 [ebuild N ] gnome-extra/gnome-system-monitor-2.0.4-r1 [ebuild N ] gnome-extra/gconf-editor-0.4.0 [ebuild N ] x11-libs/startup-notification-0.5 [ebuild N ] gnome-base/gnome-desktop-2.2.0.1 [ebuild N ] gnome-base/gnome-panel-2.2.0.1-r1 [ebuild N ] gnome-extra/gnome-utils-2.2.0.3 [ebuild N ] gnome-base/gail-1.2.0 [ebuild N ] gnome-extra/libgtkhtml-2.2.0 [ebuild N ] gnome-extra/yelp-2.2.0 [ebuild N ] dev-lang/nasm-0.98.34 [ebuild N ] media-libs/gstreamer-0.6.0-r2 [ebuild N ] media-libs/svgalib-1.4.3-r4 [ebuild N ] media-libs/libsdl-1.2.5-r1 [ebuild N ] media-libs/libmikmod-3.1.10 [ebuild N ] media-sound/mad-0.14.2b-r2 [ebuild N ] media-libs/libogg-1.0 [ebuild N ] media-libs/libmpeg2-0.3.1 [ebuild N ] media-libs/libvorbis-1.0-r2 [ebuild N ] media-sound/lame-3.93.1-r1 [ebuild N ] media-libs/hermes-1.3.2-r2 [ebuild N ] media-libs/jpeg-mmx-1.1.2-r1 [ebuild N ] media-libs/libmovtar-0.1.3-r1 [ebuild N ] media-libs/libdv-0.98 [ebuild N ] x11-libs/gtk+-1.2.10-r10 [ebuild N ] media-libs/win32codecs-0.90.1-r2 [ebuild N ] media-libs/xvid-0.9.0 [ebuild N ] media-libs/divx4linux-20020418-r1 [ebuild N ] media-video/ffmpeg-0.4.6-r1 [ebuild N ] media-video/avifile-0.7.32.20030219 [ebuild N ] media-video/mjpegtools-1.6.0-r7 [ebuild N ] media-libs/gst-plugins-0.6.0-r4 [ebuild N ] gnome-extra/gnome-media-2.2.1.1 [ebuild N ] app-text/ggv-1.99.98 [ebuild N ] x11-wm/metacity-2.4.34 [ebuild N ] gnome-base/eel-2.2.1 [ebuild N ] gnome-extra/gnome-games-2.2.0 [ebuild N ] app-text/aspell-0.50.3 [ebuild N ] gnome-base/libgnomeprint-2.2.1.1 [ebuild N ] gnome-base/libgnomeprintui-2.2.1.1 [ebuild N ] app-editors/gedit-2.2.0.1 [ebuild N ] gnome-extra/gnome2-user-docs-2.0.5 [ebuild N ] sys-apps/eject-2.0.12-r1 [ebuild N ] media-libs/libao-0.8.3 [ebuild N ] media-sound/vorbis-tools-1.0-r1 [ebuild N ] gnome-base/nautilus-2.2.1 [ebuild N ] x11-libs/vte-0.10.25 [ebuild N ] x11-terms/gnome-terminal-2.2.1 [ebuild N ] gnome-base/gnome-applets-2.2.0 [ebuild N ] gnome-base/gnome-session-2.2.0.2 [ebuild N ] gnome-base/gdm-2.4.1.3 [ebuild N ] gnome-base/control-center-2.2.0.1 [ebuild N ] gnome-extra/acme-2.0.2 [ebuild N ] sys-devel/gdb-5.3 [ebuild N ] gnome-extra/bug-buddy-2.2.102 [ebuild N ] gnome-extra/nautilus-media-0.2.1 [ebuild N ] gnome-base/gnome-2.2-r2 -----Message d'origine----- De : Marc Tessier [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Envoy : 21 mars 2003 09:47 : [EMAIL PROTECTED] Objet : RE: [gentoo-user] ALSA vs ESound ESD Because gnome still want to use it. There's no need for it as far as I am aware. -- [EMAIL PROTECTED] mailing list -- [EMAIL PROTECTED] mailing list -- [EMAIL PROTECTED] mailing list
