Hi

I've got a couple of problems....

Background: I've been running Gentoo for about 6 months on my laptop
alongside another distribution. I recently deleted that other
distribution (being more than content with Gentoo!) and decided to shift
my existing Gentoo / to the partition that used to be occupied by the
deleted distribution. For clarity

/dev/hda1 /boot 15M
/dev/hda2 / (for old gentoo) 2.5G
/dev/hda3 / (for old distribution) 4.5G
/dev/hda5 /home 2.0G

I wanted to shift everything from /dev/hda2 to /dev/hda3 to take
advantage of the extra space.

What I did: Deleted /dev/hda3. Untarred a Stage1 tarball in /dev/hda3
(to get the directory structure). Copied /etc /usr /opt /bin /sbin /var
/lib from /dev/hda2 to /dev/hda3. Fiddled with grub.conf to make it boot.

What has gone wrong: Well, not a lot - it boots, virtually everything
works as it should except:

1. On booting I get a stack of warnings like:

/sbin/runscript.sh: Line 61: /dev/vc/[0-10]: No such file or directory
Failed to set user font [!!]

2. ALSA (haha - you could have guessed this bit!) doesn't work... The
modules load fine, but I get a snd_ctrl error something about not being
able to find the soundcard. /proc/pci shows up the soundcard but there's
nothing in /dev/sound/

Any ideas what is going wrong? For the record, if I boot off my old
gentoo root (/dev/hda2 - which I've kept intact), everything - ALSA
included - works fine.

Thanks for any help!

Dan
