I tried the 4349 drivers, and I'm having the same problem I've always had with the 4XXX series, which is as follows: I've tried Slack 7.X, 8.X, 9.X Redhat 7.3, 8.0, and Gentoo 1.4 versions of glibc from 2.2.5 through 2.3.2, X 4.2.1 through 4.3.0 and what happens is when I used KDE > 3.03 and use Konqueror for my web browser, X locks up on me, I still have control of the mouse, but the only way to fix the problem, is to ssh into the box and reboot, or use SysRQ keys to reboot. I can easily reproduce the problem, just by installing 4XXX series drivers, and using Konqueror to view websites, specifically http://www.thehun.net after moving the mouse over links, it locks the box up. Anyone have similar problems?
