Probably best to read the judges report on the AES finalists. Any of them should be decent, Rijndael seems to give a good compromise between speed/security, I'm using Serpent because it seems to be the simplest and most secure (in that, the way it's designed, it's unlikely an exploit will be discovered - it uses well analysed techniques). It's meant to be slow but I haven't found that a problem.
