Checked and that is in fact driver section stuff, and I don't know which drivers implement it. Nvidia drivers do. How new your monitor is? I simply ask, because EDID checking shouldn't actually try to change the reolution, but some older monitors are known to try to change to the resolution that the driver queries from the monitor.
