It updates binary packages to reflect changes in the location of packages in the portage tree. afaik it's not needed often and runs quick unless you have lots of binary packages.Just curious what this message is all about. I have been receiving this message lately in when emerge syncing.

The "Run 'fixpackeges'" part. is that part of the gentoolkit or emerge?
