Try this Jeff:
$ xdpyinfo | grep dimensions
on my box this says:
dimensions: 1152x864 pixels (281x211 millimeters)
...so edit /etc/X11/XF86Config and add the following under Section
"Monitor":
DisplaySize 281 211
