Hi all- I had a pretty good working gentoo 1.4 install going on an older athlon 1g system but that motherboard had a faulty set of ps2 ports which made it pretty hard to use :). So I plopped in a new motherboard. This one is a K7S5A Pro with a Athlon XP cpu in it. I pretty much had to rebuild the system for a variety of reasons so now am doing a stage 1 on it. Some of the issues I have run into are:
usb2 seems to be an issue with the installers for both debian and gentoo. the installer times out most times or it wants to have the "nousb" option passed. The system also has a scsi card and cdrom/cdrw in it and the cdrom was not correctly id'ed at boot so I did the "doscsi". Unfortunately, it does not seem possible to pass two variable for booting? So, do others use this board? What is the USB issue or issues? I think it wants EHCI compiled in but I would rather not use USB since I have mostly legacy devices and the systems which I use USB on are not Linux for the most part. Are there other issues with these SIS based boards I should be aware of? I saw a few things about the USB 2.0 controller and the first pci slot in general. Anybody else using one of these boards with gentoo 1.4? Thanks! -- Michael Perry | Do or do not.
