gentoo-sources 2.4.20-r5 is nice and powerful, but unfortunately has older ACPI sources which my laptop desperately needs (Compaq EVO N800C, acpi-only). So I'm wondering:
Can I update/patch acpi of gentoo-sources to some version more current?
I guess not, since those patches rely on the version of source code they are intended to be applied to. However, I also tried to use vanilla-sources 2.4.21 and apply the -ck3 patch. It builds and compiles seamlessly using gcc-3.2.2, but when this kernel starts, it panics when it tries to enumerate the LUNs of my IDE controller. The message reads "wrong operand 0000; kernel bug in sched.c:1171" and then it halts.
Can anybody please give me some advice on how I could fix this, either update acpi of gentoo-sources or fix that error of the ck3-patched vanilla-sources? Your help is greatly appreciated. Best regards,
- Christian
