Thanks, Patrick. I've set /etc/hostname, and still the command hostname 
returns "localhost". The point is that the computer has some official 
name, to which one can send e-mail. I don't know in what other 
circunstances that name might be important. There must be some command to 
find that name at boot time or whatever, perhaps by querying the DNS 
server, I suppose that's what RedHat does...
