While it seems to be "disk specific," you may notice that you can no longer read from your disk after you try to do so initially, or you may find that your system locks up entirely. In order to prevent this, pass the following command before you try any hdparm stuff. I also would not recomend booting from your Seagate disk just yet. echo max_kb_per_request:15 > /proc/ide/hde/settings Of course, it is entirely possible that you will not experience any of the said problems prior to passing the above command.
