hmm, "emerge cups kde", then configure your (local) printer using "kcmshell printmgr" or the cups-web-interface on localhost:631. After that you can print locally. If there are already other cups-servers in your network there are two possibilities: 1) the server use browsing of their printer-information. 2) you have to poll the printer-information, configuring can be done via "kcmshell printmgr" comfortably...
